[637] ἀκηχέδαται, an anomalous form to be compared with “ἐληλέδαταιOd. 7.86 (if the reading is right', and “ἐρράδαται” from “ῥαίνω”. If referred to “ἀκαχίζω” (cf. the Herodotean “κεχωρίδαται”) the “ε” is irregular. Buttmann would read “ἀκηχέαται” with the editio princeps, and so Schulze (Q. E. p. 248) who refers it to a root “α_χε” beside “α^χε” (from which we have “ἀκαχείατο12.179 for “ἀκαχέατο” with purely metrical lengthening); cf. “ἀκηχέμενος” beside “ἀκαχημένος”. For the double form of the root cf. the instances in H. G. §§ 22, 26. It must be admitted however that the evidence for “α_χε” is very weak, and lengthening of the reduplicated stems has many analogies, see on 18.29, H. G. § 23. 3. — δεῦρο in this pregnant sense ‘looking in this direction’ does not recur, the adverb being else only used with verbs of motion.
