[57] Cf. 9.343δουρλκτητήν περ ἐοῦσαν”. πόλιν, Lyrnessos, 2.690. ἐυτείχεα, elsewhere always “ἐυτείχεον” (1.129, etc.). But the present form is more in accordance with analogy, and Nauck is perhaps right in wishing to restore it throughout; “ἐυτείχεον” always occurs before the bucolic diaeresis, where the hiatus is admissible, and the fact that several MSS. read it here against the metre shews that there was a standing tendency to introduce it.
