[118] πρὸ φόωσδε as 16.188. Here Ar. took “πρό” as = ‘before his time,’ “πρὸ τῶν μηνῶν”, which is clearly indefensible. ἠλιτόμηνον, lit. failing in (the due number of) months. Cf. Scut. Herc. 91 “ἀλιτήμενον Εὐρυσθῆα”, which Bentley corrected into “Εὐρυσθῆ᾽ ἠλιτόμηνον”. Fick suggests that the origin of the error there was the old AAITEMENON wrongly transliterated “ἀλιτήμενον”, instead of Aiol. “ἀλλιτέμηννον”, which he reads here.
