[509] μετακλινθέντος, apparently a metaphor from a scale-beam. Cf. 14.510 “ἔκλινε μάχην”, and the simple “Τρῶας δ᾽ ἔκλιναν Δαναοί” 5.37. The additional line is completed by Menrad “Τρῶες ὑπέρθυμοι καὶ ἀπ᾽ ὤμων” (“ἀπὸ κλυτὰ” Robert) “τεύχη ἕλοιντο”. In 511 ]“αν” is possibly a mere error for “-ων”.
