[798] ἀνδρὸς θείοιο, a unique phrase. “θεῖος” is used as an epith. ornans of Odysseus often, of Achilles in 19.279, 297, and of other heroes 13.694, 14.230, 15.25, 15.333, 20.145. With “ἀνήρ” it seems to be more than this, and to refer to his divine parentage. It is only in virtue of his divine birth that he can wear divine armour without the nemesis which comes on Hector (800).
