[226] With the punctuation and accentuation of the text ἢ . . ἤ give the two alternatives paratactically, as 11.410, q.v. It is possible to put a comma after “ἀντιβίην” and take the “ἤ”-clauses as subordinate indirect questions, ‘to try whether . . or.’ In this case we must according to the rule write “ἦ” for the second “ἤ” (H. G. §§ 340-41). The sense in that case is ra her weaker than with the text.
