[770] ἐπιρροθος, see note on 4.390. To the evidence there given that the word is genuine and not a mere mistake for “ἐπιτάρροθος” may be added the verb “ἐπιρροθεῖν” = cheer assent, Aisch. Cho. 459, Eur. Hec. 553, Eur. Or. 901.But in Soph. Tr. 264 it means rexile. Both senses come from the sense to make a noise at, whether in encouragement (“ἐπὶ ἴαχον” 766) or abuse.
