[128] The subj. γινώσκηις is undoubtedly right after “ἕλον”, because the object of the past action is still future; H. G. § 298. 2. It is noteworthy that the MSS. have with hardly any exception retained the forms “γινώσκω” and “γίνομαι” against the old Attic “γιγν-. γιν-” is common to Ionic, Doric, Thessalian, and Boiotian, and appears to represent a primitive Greek assimilation, through the stage gingn- (Brugm. Gr. i. p. 364). On the other hand, it prevailed also in the later “κοινή”, which may of course have affected the MSS.
