[306] οὔ πω = “οὔ πως”, in no wise. The two forms were of course originally identical (cf. “οὕτω” by “οὕτως”), and their differentiation is not complete in Homer. It is only by great violence that the sense ‘not yet’ can be brought in. Cf. also 12.270, Od. 9.102, etc. Some would always read “πως” in this sense, but the tradition is strongly in favour of maintaining the difference; later usage would tend to abolish, not to introduce it.
