[599] “ἐπιλίγδην, ἐπιψαύδην, ὅσον δι᾽ ἐπιπολῆς ψαῦσαι, μὴ εἰς βάθος”, Schol. A. Cf. Od. 22.278λίγδην”. The derivation of the adverb is unknown. ἄχριξ, cf. on 4.522. The force of the word is not very obvious here, as the sense ‘utterly’ is hardly consistent with grazing. That a superficial wound on the shoulder should reach the bone is, however, natural enough, “ἐστὶ γὰρ ὠμοπλάτη ἀσαρκοτάτη”, Schol.
