[587] ἀπάτερθε, i.e. Menelaos' contingent was independent of that ruled by his brother. For 590 see 356. The line, whatever be the interpretation of the gen. “Ἑλένης”, is far more naturally used of the chief sufferer Menelaos than of the Greek army at large.
