[412] κατακτενεῖ, again a late form for -“έει”, but not one which we can alter with confidence in a passage of this character. Von Christ's “αὐτίκα δὲ κτενέει ὔμμ᾽” is evidently bad. Agar with reason condemns the whole line, as added in order to supply the verb ἔσσεται to 411, remarking that the threat of killing the horses if they do not win is absurd — as no doubt it is (C. R. xiv. 4).
