[346] παραφθάνηισι with long “αin thesi, as 9.506, 21.262, probably from “φθάνϝω”, H. G. § 47. The vulg. “παραφθαίη”(“ι”)“σι”, half opt. half subj., is a hybrid monster such as one would hardly dare to impute even to the author of K. It is usually explained as an opt. with “-σι” added on the analogy of the epic subj. “-ηισι” by the commoner “-ηι”. But this is quite unnecessary.
