[83] πορφύρεος, dark; used of what we call the ‘cold’ colours, from blue to violet. Cf. 20.418 “νεφέλη δέ μιν ἀμφεκάλυψε κυανέη”. Thus the metaphor may be taken from the approach of a thundercloud.
