[478] δέ, a harsh case of ictus-lengthening, though in the face of MS. testimony we can hardly doubt that it, and not the obvious correction “δ᾽ αὖ”, is the true reading. Cf. “ἠδ᾽ ὁπόσα τολύπευσε” 24.7, “πόλλ᾽ ἐτέα τε καὶ οὐκί” 20.255 in the same place; and “ὁ ξεῖνος ἐμέθεν” Od. 19.99.
