[737] κατά, down upon; a vehement irruption is regarded as a descent, even when a wall is scaled. The simile in 15.381-4 explains the metaphor. So in 1.484 “κατὰ στρατὁν” is used of the ship coming from the ‘high seas’ down upon the camp.
