El. 244 μὲν θανὼν γᾶ τε καὶ οὐδὲν ὢν κείσεται τάλας”: Eur. fr. 537κατθανὼν δὲ πᾶς ἀνὴρ γῆ καὶ σκία”: Epicharmos (?) in Schol. “Τ” on 22.414 (emended by Cobet', “εἰμὶ νεκρός, νεκρὸς δὲ κόπρος, γῆ δ᾽ κόπρος ἐστίν: εἰ δ᾽ γῆ θεός ἐστ᾽, οὐ νεκρὸς ἀλλὰ θεός”. It is of course possible to understand he outrages the earth by dragging the body over it; but such a thought is surely not Epic.
