[723] ὀλοόφρων is used in Il. only of animals (15.630, 17.21), in Od. only of men (Od. 1.52, Od. 10.137, Od. 11.322). There is no other allusion in H. to the story of Philoktetes, but it must have been perfectly familiar as an essential part of the legend of Troy. Zen. athetized 724-6 on the same grounds as 686-94. Medon appears again in 13.694, but there he is leader of the Phthians with Podarkes (704).
