[406] οὐδέ τ᾽ ἔδησαν: read “οὐδέ ϝ᾽ ἔδησαν”. The loss of “ϝ᾽” = “” can be traced in many places — nowhere more clearly than in 24.154, q.v. The fact was first discovered by Brandreth, and has been systematically investigated by van Leeuwen. See H. G. § 391.
