[395] ἄητον, a doubtful word; see on “αἴητον” 18.410. It may perhaps be related to “ἄητο” above, in the sense ‘blown about,’ flighty. Another interpretation is insatiable, as if from sa, “ἄω”, which is barely possible. Qu. Smyrn. has “θάρσος ἄατον”, which may therefore have been an old variant here, though it would be no clearer than the text, “ἀήττητον” in P is of course an etymology which has displaced the word it was meant to explain.
