[385] κρινώμεθα, measure ourselves; cf. the same root in de-cern-ere, cer-tamen. From the primary idea of separation (by sifting, etc.) comes that of two parties standing in opposition. So διακρινέει, part, 387; cf. 362, 3.98, Od. 16.269μένος κρίνηται Ἄρηος,Od. 18.264, Od. 24.507.
