[640] ἀγγελίης, see notes on 3.206, 13.252. Zen. read “ἀγγελίην” here; but “ἀγγελίας” is a more probable reading. This acc. plur. might be taken for a nom. sing. masc. and changed into -“ίης”, when the poems were brought into their present dialect. Cf. Pindar O. iii. 28 “εὖτέ μιν” (sc. Herakles) “ἀγγελίαις Εὐρυσθέος ἔντυ᾽ ἀνάγκα πατρόθεν”. For the dat. cf. “Τρωσὶν δ᾽ ἄγγελος ἦλθε,2.786.
